The Vector Mist system is extremely effective and easy to
install. A system can usually be installed in a day by one or two people
using commonly available tools plus tools that may be provided in a system
package.
A loop of ¼ inch diameter
nylon tubing is usually attached to the eaves of your home and surrounding
fencing utilizing a combination of staples, tubing clamps with screws and
plastic tie-straps. Other methods are also used such as attachment to
trees using clamps and screws or installation of “risers” which come out
of the ground. Risers are made of PVC pipes and fittings with an
incorporated brass and steel nozzle assembly.
Special nozzles with
“push-in” fittings are installed on the tubing at regular intervals around
your property with just slight pressure using your fingers.
The tubing is then
connected to the main unit via another “push-in” fitting. The main unit
consists of a pump, motor and control unit mounted on top of a 55-gallon
cylindrical reservoir about 3 feet tall. The main unit is then plugged
into a standard 110-volt grounded electrical outlet. If the main unit is
located outside it must be covered with a weather resistant outdoor cover
available from us.
The system is then filled
with Pyrethrum insecticide following the simple instructions provided with
the unit and in conformity with the insecticide’s original container.
Use the following System
Design Instructions to help in laying out a system for your property
before you actually begin installation.
Please use graph paper
to make a scale drawing of your property. It is probably convenient to
have one square equal 0.5-1.0 foot. Measure the dimension of your
property and first make sure the scale you choose fits on the paper.
Draw the outline of your
property. Next, find a starting point (usually a back corner of your
house) and measure to the side and rear of your property, then place this
starting point on the graph and
continue
to draw in the outlines of your house.
Next, add in other features and trees, out buildings, etc., using their
approximate locations. Draw dots to indicate placement of nozzles. You
may want to refer to the above graphic for ideas on where to place the
nozzles but basically you should place them at intervals 12-15 feet apart
on fence lines (the closer the fence is to the house and high activity
areas, the closer the nozzles should be spaced) and 10-12 feet apart on
the house. If the distance between fences and the house are great (more
than about 60 feet), you might want to consider adding nozzles to the
trunks or major limbs of trees. In this case they should be placed 9-10
feet off the ground and will provide excellent distribution.
The exact placement of
nozzles will be determined by considering what the nozzle will spray on.
Avoid furniture, BBQ pits, etc. If a nozzle is to be placed directly in
front of a window or on a narrow soffit, a 45-degree fitting should be
used.
In the absence of a
fence, a perimeter can be made using risers, which resemble sprinkler
system risers. A brass nozzle is installed inside of a gray PVC conduit
riser with the tubing running down the length and out the side of the
conduit under ground.
Locate the
pump/timer/reservoir unit. Indicate this on your layout with a special
character such as a circle with an “X” in it. The unit should be placed
where a 110-volt power plug is nearby. If located outdoors the plug
should be a GFI type and have a weatherproof cover over it. Also, if the
unit is outdoors you will need to purchase an outdoor water-resistant
cover for the pump/timer.
